During the reconstruction and expansion work carried out in 1844, an altar made of Carrara marble by Gioacchino Pellicciotta was added. This makes it possible to observe both the architectural design and a specific detail of its history of construction in a single building.

The Church of Sant'Antonio di Padova was built in 1852 and preserves depictions of Saint Anthony of Padua and the Immaculate Conception. Together with San Tommaso Apostolo, it provides access to Perano's religious and architectural history. The two churches therefore offer different points of reference for a tour of the town: here, the façade design and construction history take center stage, while there, the preserved depictions inside the church are the focus.

Another perspective is offered by the via degli Orti. The path leads through historic gardens and brings old seed varieties, family stories and community customs such as the Spullatura harvest festival to life. Here, garden culture appears not merely as a landscape element but is connected with memories and the communal life of the town. In the hamlet of San Tommaso stands a monumental oak tree approximately 300 years old. It is a prominent natural landmark and viewpoint in Perano. At its location, visitors can linger and, for example, have a picnic beneath its canopy. The approximate age preserves the tree's historical character, while its location allows for a simple outdoor stay.

Discover Perano Through Its Cuisine

The local cuisine adds farming specialties to the cultural impressions. Pizze e foije is a dish prepared in Perano consisting of vegetables mixed with a cornmeal pizza. This is baked on the fireplace “aruola” under a metal lid with a handle, “lu coppe”. Fried, crispy peppers and sardines are also added. The preparation method is as much a part of the dish as the combination of ingredients, making the name understandable in the context of a specific culinary tradition.

Pallotte are another specialty from Perano. The dumplings are prepared with a special cheese, bread and basil. Both dishes represent a cuisine that uses a manageable number of ingredients and places local eating habits at the center.
