Collettara between Monte Calvo and Culture
Collettara between Nature and Culture
S. Maria Lauretana in Collettara is designated as a parish church. In addition, the church in the village of Collettara was recently restored after the earthquake. This makes it a destination whose points of interest lie both in the landscape and in its cultural life.
Monte Calvo and the SIC Area
The municipality of Scoppito shares the SIC area IT7110208 “Monte Calvo e Colle Macchialunga” with the municipality of L’Aquila and the municipality of Cagnano Amiterno. The area covers 2,709 hectares. Within the municipality of Scoppito, the areas of Croce, Soffiavento, and Jubbera, among others, belong to this area.
Music, Craftsmanship, and Local History
The project “Il Merletto Aquilano: il suono dei fuselli” brought together music, craftsmanship, and community through concerts, workshops, and activities in the villages of the area. The project’s musical route also passed through Collettara di Scoppito.
As part of the ARCA project, a public meeting was held in Collettara di Scoppito about the Vicus Foruli/Civitatomassa and the Roman roads that crossed it. An ARCA workshop was also planned for Collettara, combining contemporary dance with live music. In the solo version, movement, improvisation, and creative expression were to take center stage; the audience was also to be actively involved. As part of ARCA, the artist led three workshops with children and young people in Scoppito.
Other event-related highlights range from concerts to spiritual programs: “Terre Sonanti – Il Mammut” took place on March 25, 2024, including at the Sala Polivalenta di Collettara di Scoppito; admission was free until capacity was reached. The closing concert of “Il Merletto Aquilano: il suono dei fuselli” took place on October 19 at the Centro interparrocchiale “San Domenico Savio” in Collettara di Scoppito. As part of the 2025 Nativitas program, the parish church in the district of Collettara di Scoppito was one of the venues for “Cantata di Natale – 41ª edizione – Elevazioni spirituali” at 6:00 p.m.
Mountain Bike Routes around Collettara
There are also two mountain bike routes with different courses for planning an active day. A mountain bike loop from Colletara passes by the Cappella di Santa Brigida and the Fonte Crovella. In addition, a 15 km mountain bike route runs through nature at the foot of Monte Calvo. The different route lengths and points of interest help you tailor your choice to your preferred focus: the loop names specific stops, while the 15 km route centers on the natural area around Monte Calvo.
