Brusson Between Mountain Landscapes and Village Life

Brusson lies at an altitude of more than 1,300 metres, surrounded by mountain peaks, forests and meadows. This makes it a destination where nature, winter sports and local history are closely intertwined. The sights range from the main village to Estoul, offering different ways to shape your stay.

Skiing Between Brusson and Estoul

The Estoul–Palasinaz ski area has several lifts and 15 kilometres of slopes at elevations between 1,700 and 2,000 metres. Between Brusson and Estoul, there are a total of 60 kilometres of slopes for all ability levels. The area therefore offers a clearly structured winter sports setting that caters to a range of needs.

Another facility for sports enthusiasts is the Foyer du Fond. It is located near the oldest part of Brusson and offers changing rooms, showers, rooms for waxing skis and a fitness room. The village centre and the sports facilities thus provide two distinct focal points during your stay.

Lakes and Trails in the Landscape

Lago di Brusson is located in the main village of Brusson, is accessible by car, was artificially created and is a tourist reserve. The area around the lake includes a large playground with tables and benches, a beach volleyball court and a sunbathing lawn. The lake therefore provides areas for play, sport and outdoor relaxation.

From the hamlet of Estoul, the Laghi della Battaglia Palasinaz can be reached on foot via farm roads and mountain trails. From Estoul, you can reach the Laghi di Palasinaz by following marked routes 5 and 4, in around two and a half hours on foot. The trails lead through a landscape shaped by the high altitude, forests, meadows and mountain peaks around Brusson.

Castle, Mining and Sacred Art

The history of the area is also directly connected with specific places. Castello di Graines dates from a period before 1263. It stands on the summit of a rocky outcrop at the entrance to the Vallone di Freudière. Its location made it possible to control the entire Val d'Ayas and access to the upper Valle di Gressoney.

The Chamousira Fenilliaz Mine is considered the most important gold mine in the Aosta Valley. The Brusson gold mine was discovered in 1899 and operated from 1900 until the end of the 1980s. At the Church of San Maurizio, the history goes back to the 15th century; it was rebuilt between 1870 and 1873. The parish church preserves carved, painted and gilded wooden altars from the 18th century, as well as sacred art objects.

Another historic site is Casa Yonzo. The rural building included rooms for family life and agropastoral activities, as well as a workshop, a shop and a room belonging to the Congregazione di carità. Particularly striking is the covered courtyard with a wooden balcony gallery. Casa Yonzo was recently restored and is now home to the Brusson municipal library.

Plan Your Stay in Brusson Around Your Interests

When choosing your accommodation, you can take the village’s main attractions into account: winter sports are centred on the slopes at Estoul and between Brusson and Estoul, nature experiences lead to the lakes and trails, while the castle, mine, church and Casa Yonzo bring the local history to life. This allows you to shape your stay in Brusson around activity, landscapes or culture.
