Culture at Castello di Roccabianca

The focal point is Castello di Roccabianca. The guided tour includes the Sala di Griselda, which takes up the hundredth novella from Boccaccio’s Decameron, and the ancient keep. During the tour, you climb this rare tower with a double cube. The visit thus combines literary tradition with a distinctive architectural feature of the castle and gives the town’s history a concrete, vivid form.

Regional Products and Tastings

The guided visit ends at the Museo delle Distillerie Faled with a tasting of the spirits produced by the company. By prior reservation, Castello di Roccabianca also offers tastings of typical products from the Strada del Culatello as well as its own liqueurs. The culinary offerings add an independent focus and complement the historical themes with products and flavors from the surrounding region.

History in Fontanelle and at the Churches

In the district of Fontanelle, the Museo Il Mondo piccolo uses the biographies of Giovannino Guareschi and Giovanni Faraboli to present the social history and the history of the Parma plain from the late 19th century through the 1960s. The museum is currently closed because its premises cannot be used. Nevertheless, the time span and the two biographies make clear how closely personal life stories and the development of the Parma plain are interconnected.

The churches also offer different historical points of interest. The parish church of Saints Bartholomew and Michael in Roccabianca has Baroque forms and stands on Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi. Chiesa di Ragazzola was built in 1432 and rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1680. Chiesa dei Santi Cipriano e Giustina in Stagno was built in 1863 to a design by Riccardo Magnani. Together, these buildings showcase different periods and forms of religious architecture.

The Po Valley and Regional Events

November Porc is a culinary event series held annually on weekends in November, with Roccabianca as one of its stops. In the wider area around Roccabianca, you will also find the Reggia di Colorno, a castle. Both references extend the view beyond individual buildings in the town: one points to a recurring culinary event, while the other points to a building in the broader regional context.
