Bagnara Di Romagna combines a historic townscape with museums, sacred art, cultural events, and regional everyday life. Enclosed by the town walls, the historic centre is considered the only fully preserved medieval castrum on the Romagna plain. Fortresses and Historical Testimonies
The Rocca di Bagnara is a medieval fortress. It was built in the 15th century by the Riario-Sforza family on the ruins of a medieval castrum erected in 1354. Villa Morsiani was also built in the 15th century. It was fortified when constructed and served military and guard functions, like the nearby Rocca Sforzesca, which was built at the same time.
Since 2008, the upper floor of the Rocca di Bagnara has housed the Museo del Castello, a historical tour covering the history of Bagnara from the Bronze Age to the present day. The Museo Pietro Mascagni contains around 5,000 love letters written and personally signed by Pietro Mascagni.
Churches, Art, and Local History
The Museo Storico Parrocchiale di Arte Sacra contains sacred furnishings, liturgical vestments from the 16th to the 19th century, as well as a rare antiphonary and a gradual dated 1520. The Santuario della Beata Vergine del Soccorso was consecrated on 20 November 1770, after the Imola-born architect Cosimo Morelli had been commissioned to design it in 1765.
The Chiesa Arcipretale dei Santi Giovanni Battista e Andrea Apostolo has been documented since 1484; its present building reflects three construction phases. In the Prato di Sant’Andrea, an early medieval motte has also been preserved, surrounded by the depression of the original defensive ditch. The mural “Caterina: tigre di Romagna” depicts Caterina Sforza beside a tiger; the Rocca Sforzesca can be seen in the background.
The church is known by the names Chiesa dell’Ospedale and Chiesuola. Today, it serves as a parish auditorium and is used for lyrical concerts and theatre performances.
Festivals, Music, and Regional Products
The Popoli Pop Cult Festival features concerts, educational workshops, activities for families, traditional cooking workshops, folk dancing, and food stalls representing various cultural traditions. The Festa del Pubblico Voto has been documented in Bagnara di Romagna since 1631; on 9 June 1631, it was established as a solemn vow of thanksgiving to the Madonna “dei Camangi”.
Some areas of the Prato di Sant’Andrea park are deliberately kept closer to their natural state so that flowering plants can develop and animals ranging from pollinating insects to small mammals can find a habitat; this serves to protect biological diversity. A farmers’ market takes place in Bagnara di Romagna on Wednesday afternoons. Fruit, vegetables, dairy products, cured meats, jams, honey, and eggs are sold there directly by the producers.

The Santuario della Beata Vergine del Soccorso has a car park and is accessible to people with disabilities.
