Talamello between Art, Cheese and Forest

Talamello showcases several facets of Italian local culture within a small area: artistic monuments, a distinctive cheese speciality and wooded paths suitable for short hikes. Especially if you would like to combine culture and landscape, the town can be explored as a manageable destination offering a variety of impressions. Frescoes, Churches and a Special Collection

La Cella is a votive chapel commissioned in 1437 by Bishop Giovanni Seclani. It is entirely decorated with frescoes by Antonio Alberti of Ferrara, who was one of the best-known painters of his time. The cycle of paintings depicts scenes of the Annunciation, the Madonna enthroned, the Adoration of the Magi and the Presentation in the Temple. It also includes two rows of saints: six men and six women, as well as the four Evangelists and the Church Fathers. For a culture-focused travel itinerary, La Cella is therefore a specific highlight where religious themes in art and regional history come together directly.

The parish church of San Lorenzo also leads into another historical layer of Talamello. It dates from the 17th century and preserves a crucifix painted in 1300 from the 14th century, attributed to Giovanni da Rimini. The Museo-Pinacoteca Gualtieri is located in the former Teatro Amintore Galli, which had previously been a medieval church dedicated to Sant'Antonio Abate. It brings together more than 60 works donated to the municipality between 2000 and 2008 by Fernando Gualtieri, an internationally renowned artist with roots in Talamello. The collection includes oil paintings on canvas, including still lifes, as well as oil and pencil portraits.

Caciotta and Local Event Culture

The local character includes Talamello's Caciotta, which is typical of the area. It is stored and matured in pits in the sandstone rock on which the town was founded. After three months of maturation, the Caciotta is called “L'Ambra di Talamello”. At the L'Ambra di Talamello event, you can already observe the “sfossatura” of the cheese in the morning; it has matured for more than three months in specially designated pits.

In November, L'Ambra di Talamello adds another seasonal highlight: the event takes place on two Sundays in November. Along the town's streets, food stalls offer various typical quality products from all over Italy. In October, chestnut festivals, guided tours and gathering activities take place in both valleys, with Talamello and Montefiore Conca as their centres. The Fiera delle Castagne della Valmarecchia takes place in Talamello in October.

Forest Paths and Getting Around Locally

The forests around Talamello are home to chestnut trees and pines, as well as plenty of undergrowth; they are suitable for short hikes. A wooded walk from Talamello to Monte Pincio passes through chestnut trees, pines and dense undergrowth and offers views across the Valmarecchia. For local travel and getting around, START Romagna's line 162 is relevant. It runs from Rimini to S.Agata Feltria and serves Talamello with the stops Talamello and Talamello-Scuole.
