Miazzina is known for its panoramas. The town’s nickname is “il balcone sul Lago Maggiore”. An easy 7-kilometre circular trail from Miazzina explores the mountain meadows of Motta d'Aurelio and leads through chestnut forests to Alpe Aurelio. The circular trail from Motta d'Aurelio includes mountain paths, chapels, characteristic rural buildings, engraved and bowl-shaped rocks, as well as panoramas over Lake Maggiore, the Cusio and Val Grande. In this small area, observing the landscape, physical activity and insights into the town’s rural character come together.

Districts and Ecclesiastical History

Miazzina’s two historic districts, “log dent” and “log là”, were once independent and meet at the Chiesa di S. Lucia. The church was elevated to the status of a parish church in 1618. Above its entrance portal is an organ built by Angelo Cavalli of Lodi in 1870. It is considered the only genuinely 19th-century organ in the Provincia Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. A monument to Achille Tominetti also stands near the parish church.

Remembrance and Rural Heritage

The private Cà dal fumm museum is furnished with objects from Miazzina’s traditional rural material culture. The small room of the Baita Fumo preserves old objects, including agricultural equipment as well as kitchen, spinning and other work tools. The Memoriale degli Alpini is also one of the area’s defining places of remembrance: in Colletta, it stands behind a panoramic balcony overlooking the lakes. A ceremony takes place every year at the Memoriale degli Alpini in the hills of Verbano. It bears the names of 349 people killed in the war from 1915 to 1918, 47 people killed in the war from 1935 to 1936 and the African War, and 295 people killed in the Second World War.

Festivals, Painting and Local Traditions

Miazzina’s annual calendar includes several firmly established events. On the first Sunday in June, the Alpini memorial service takes place at the Memoriale di Pala. On the second Sunday in August, the S. Ulderico festival takes place in Miazzina, and on 13 December, the S. Lucia parish festival is held. Tourism has been present in Miazzina for more than a century. Traditional women’s clothing in Miazzina includes a Florentine straw hat decorated with chenille and dried flowers. Many paintings by Achille Tominetti depict recognisable views of Miazzina as well as scenes of rural and pastoral life. Tominetti was a 19th-century painter associated with Divisionism and died in 1917 in his home in Miazzina.
