A large part of the municipality of Accumoli lies within the Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e dei Monti della Laga. Its impressive natural areas include Lago Secco and Agro Nero. Another high-altitude natural area is the Laghetti dei Pantani: this site of Community importance lies on a plateau at an altitude of over 1,500 metres between the Parco dei Monti Sibillini and the Parco del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga. Small lakes of glacial origin are located there.

Hiking Between Accumoli and Its Hamlets

Accumoli is a stage destination on the Sentiero Italia. The municipal Slow Trekking trail network also includes route AC1 between Accumoli and Madonna delle Coste. Slow Trekking is a network of trails approximately 60 kilometres long that partially connects the main town with its hamlets. This allows you to compare different hiking options without reducing the landscape to a single trail.

A hike from Accumoli follows an old mountain path to the Pantani at an altitude of 1,588 metres. The trail climbs from Madonna delle Coste towards the mountains. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between a connection linking hamlets, a historic route and destinations at higher elevations. Le Coste also has an extensive picnic area with stone barbecue facilities.

Towers, Churches and the Historic Centre

The Torre Civica stands prominently in the townscape, a building dating from the 12th century. It is the oldest building in Accumoli and a symbol of the town’s civic and military past. The Chiesa della Madonna delle Coste probably has eremitic origins dating from the 12th to the 13th century. In the historic centre, Accumoli also preserves the 13th-century Palazzo del Podestà.

These three buildings offer different ways of approaching the town’s history: the Torre Civica represents its earlier urban and military past, the church a presumably secluded religious tradition, and the Palazzo del Podestà its historic administration. Pasta Festivals in Grisciano and Roccasalli

Local food culture includes two events held in mid-August. In Grisciano, the Sagra della Pasta alla Gricia takes place, accompanied by live folk music. At the same time, the hamlet of Roccasalli hosts the Sagra della Pasta del Vergaro. It features a local pasta dish with ventresca, fresh and dried ricotta, and Pecorino Amatriciano.
