Ronciglione between Palazzi, Lake Vico and Nature Trails

In the Renaissance and Baroque district, elegant palazzi with ornate stucco work and coats of arms shape the townscape. Through their windows, frescoed walls and antique coffered ceilings can be seen. The Museo della Vecchia Ferriera e Stamperia offers another perspective on the town's history: it is housed in Ronciglione's oldest forge and tells the industrial, economic, and social history of the town.

History, Printing and Theatre

Since February 5, 2023, the Museo della Vecchia Ferriera e Stamperia has included a new section dedicated to the Museo della Tipografia e della Stampa. The Teatro Ettore Petrolini focuses on presenting theatre and cinema culture and organizes theatrical performances and related events. For a trip that brings together historic spaces, local history, and cultural events, Ronciglione offers a range of different themes in one place.

Lake Vico and Nature Observation

Lake Vico lies north of Ronciglione and adds a waterside landscape to a cultural visit to the town. The del Cerretto birdwatching observatory is located near the Pantanacce wetland in the northern part of the lake. It is accessible with a stroller or wheeled mobility aids. On the shore of Lake Vico in the Ronciglione area, there are also several equipped picnic areas in the wooded section between the Punta del Lago residential area and the bathing establishments.

Trails by the Lake and through the Forest

The Anello Monte Fogliano circular trail is located on the western side of Lake Vico and leads to the Convento di Sant'Angelo and the Eremo di San Girolamo. The vegetation consists mainly of beech, downy oak, and chestnut trees. As a result, this circular trail focuses not only on the connection to the two religious buildings but also on the changing forest landscape along the route.

One stage of the Via Francigena begins in Ronciglione and ends in Campagnano; intermediate stops are Sutri and Monterosi. For cyclists, the official MTB route runs from Ronciglione via Anfiteatro, Capo Ripa, Monte Pinese, salita scorticata, Monte Fogliano, Strada di mezzo, and Discesa Canale to Lake Vico and back to Ronciglione.

The palazzi, the Museo della Vecchia Ferriera e Stamperia, and the Teatro Ettore Petrolini represent history and culture. Lake Vico, the del Cerretto birdwatching observatory, and the picnic areas complement these themes with water, forest, and nature observation. The Via Francigena, the MTB route, and the Anello Monte Fogliano add several more trails. Near Ronciglione lies the historic site of Sutri, Castello di Carlo Magno.
