Cervo as a cultural destination with a history of its own

Cervo reveals its character above all where architectural history, art and cultural life come together directly. The Chiesa dei Corallini is a masterpiece of Ligurian Baroque and was built from 1686 to 1734. The church houses a wooden crucifix by Antonio Maragliano. The Chiesa dei Corallini is connected to the historic coral fishing industry in Cervo; that is why it bears this name. Art and history in Cervo

The Oratorio di Santa Caterina was built in the 13th century on the initiative of the Hospitallers. Frescoes from the 16th century have been preserved there, including a depiction of Saint George slaying the dragon. The oratory is used for exhibitions, concerts and cultural events. Fortress, museum and orientation

Towards the end of the 12th century, Bonifacio I, Marquess of Clavesana, had the Castello dei Clavesana fortress built. It incorporated an earlier square tower that had been built on the exposed rock. The Castello currently houses the Museo Etnografico and the tourist information office. For orientation on site, there is therefore a clear connection here between the medieval fortress and present-day facilities.

Another facet is shown by the permanent exhibition “Donne di Liguria – Un secolo di storia 1850-1950”. It includes more than 250 dolls in contemporary fashion, wearing handmade dresses and lace. The combination of fashion, craftsmanship and a clearly defined period makes this exhibition content interesting also for visitors who prefer to explore cultural history through concrete objects rather than abstract dates.

Music, events and cycle route

The Bastione di Mezzodì is used for cultural and musical activities, exhibitions, conferences and weddings. The International Chamber Music Festival in Cervo can be traced back to 1964. Together with the events at the Oratorio di Santa Caterina, these uses represent different opportunities centered around music, exhibitions and cultural life.

The Ciclovia Tirrenica is also one of the ways to incorporate Cervo into an active travel itinerary. The section of the Ciclovia Tirrenica in the Golfo Dianese passes through Cervo and extends to the border with Andora.
