Seborga Between Sea Views and Village History

The Oratory of San Bernardo dates from the 13th century. In the small oratory, behind the altar, there is a painting attributed to Carrega of Porto Maurizio. The permanent exhibition of historic musical instruments in Seborga comprises 135 valuable instruments from various periods. Coin history is another central theme: the Collezione Minervini displays all the Luigini of the principality in their various editions. At the Museo della Zecca, you can see machines used to mint the Luigini, including a screw press and a minting die from 1869.

The historic traces also include the remains of an old castle. The old prisons in Seborga’s historic centre likewise point to earlier functions of the village: defendants were held there until the verdict was announced.

Plants, Valleys and Views towards the Côte d’Azur

Mimosas are among the flowers characteristic of Seborga. The broom known locally as “seborghina”, which is characteristic of the village, is another defining plant. At the Belvedere on Piazza Martiri Patrioti, the view opens out across the valleys below to the Côte d’Azur and the Principality of Monaco.
