Fiumaretta di Ameglia lies on the left bank of the Magra River, opposite Bocca di Magra. In ancient times, the area of Fiumaretta lay in front of the port of the city of Luni; over the centuries, it increasingly silted up. The present-day village of Fiumaretta was established in 1855 after a former marshland area was drained. In the oldest part, the planned urban structure is still recognisable. The beaches also shape the character of the village: they consist of fine, firm sand. Fiumaretta thus offers a clear contrast between orderly settlement development and the open spaces by the water.

Water Sports on the Magra

Its particular exposure to the wind makes Fiumaretta a preferred destination for sailing enthusiasts. The Kau Kau Club is a water sports school based in Fiumaretta di Ameglia, while the Kau Kau School offers courses in kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding and sailing. The bathing area also offers water sports and boating activities connected with the tourist harbour.

A nautical landmark is Marina 2000-77 on the left bank of the Magra River. It provides services for water sports enthusiasts and recreational boaters. Those wishing to experience the river landscape from the water can cross the mouth by canoe and discover the hidden beaches between Punta Bianca and Punta Corvo.

Nature and Diving

Near Fiumaretta, the mouth of the Magra is an interesting area for observing various waterbirds. These include gulls such as Larus argentatus and Larus ridibundus, European shags (Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii) and sandwich terns (Sterna sandvicensis). For diving and freediving enthusiasts, Lorenzo Sub is located in Fiumaretta, in the Montemarcello-Magra-Vara Regional Park. In the Tuscan-Ligurian region, the dive centre is a point of reference for diving and freediving enthusiasts.

Flat Stage and Sport Fishing

The surrounding area can also be incorporated into a stay on foot. The “Da Bocca di Magra a Luni” stage is completely flat, providing a clearly defined topographical feature for your planning. Another option by the water is the sport fishing organised by Circolo Barcaioli Pescatori Sportivi Fiumaretta, which is open to everyone.

Church and Summer Festival

The church of Sant’Isidoro in Fiumaretta is part of the village’s history. It was built as a subsidiary church to provide spiritual support to the farming population. The area of Fiumaretta was elevated to parish status on 31 December 1947; civil recognition followed on 14 September 1949.

Alongside Bocca di Magra, Fiumaretta is one of the two riverside villages that take part each year in the Notte Blu summer festival organised by the municipality of Ameglia. On this occasion, the two villages are connected by a boat and a shuttle service. Notte Blu also includes street food and craft markets. Among the activities organised over the years by the Associazione Vivere Fiumaretta were culinary walks with wine tastings in the surrounding area.
