La Spezia reveals itself through art collections, archaeological finds, historic gardens, Passeggiata Morin, a hiking trail and a local dish.

Art and History in Several Museums

The Museo Civico “Amedeo Lia” houses an extensive collection of more than 1,000 works dating from classical antiquity to the 18th century.

The collection of the Museo Civico “Amedeo Lia” includes works by Pietro Lorenzetti, Titian, Tintoretto, Canaletto and Pontormo, as well as by an artist probably attributed to Raphael.

Culture enthusiasts can organize their museum visits according to their interests: works at the Museo Civico “Amedeo Lia”, archaeological topics at the Museo Archeologico del Castello di San Giorgio, or original seals with a tactile tour at the Museo del Sigillo. Those traveling with a school class or seeking a tactile experience can plan this tour as a separate focus.

The Museo del Castello San Giorgio is located in Castello San Giorgio and has no architectural barriers.

At the Museo Archeologico del Castello di San Giorgio, a chronological tour leads through the exhibition rooms from the earliest prehistory to the Early Middle Ages. The museum also displays statue stelae from Lunigiana and Roman finds from Luni. The tour combines the chronological sequence of the rooms with the groups of finds from Lunigiana and Luni.

The Museo del Sigillo contains more than 1,500 original seals dating from the 4th millennium BC to the present day. The museum also has a tactile tour, opened in 2018, primarily for visually impaired and blind visitors, school classes and other interested visitors.

Exhibitions, Gardens and Places of Remembrance

CAMeC organizes temporary exhibitions, conferences and workshops on art therapy. At the same time, it preserves art holdings from editions of the Premio del Golfo, as well as donations from Cozzani and Battolini.

The Giardini Pubblici are the historic gardens of La Spezia and are located on the central Via Chiodo. The Parco della Rimembranza lies north of La Spezia and is considered one of the city’s most important places of remembrance. The Giardini Pubblici and the Parco della Rimembranza can therefore be treated as separate stops alongside the hike.

Passeggiata Morin is one of the most important symbols of La Spezia.

Hiking and Local Cuisine

The Anello Marola–Campiglia circular hiking trail begins in the village of Acquasanta at the turnoff for Campiglia. Those planning this route should take their bearings from the starting point in Acquasanta and the turnoff for Campiglia.

Mesciùa is a dish typical of La Spezia and associated with the harbor’s quays. This connection with the harbor remains closely tied to the quays of La Spezia.
