Introbio combines a religious hiking tradition with the path to the Cascata della Troggia, the Falesie di Introbio climbing area and details found throughout the townscape. Hiking tradition and trailhead

Every year on 5 August, locals from Introbio, residents of Valsassina and tourists undertake the hike to Madonna della Neve as a religious vow. This keeps an old tradition alive. If you include this custom in your travel plans, you have a definite date in your personal travel calendar. The religious occasion and fixed date give this hike a different framework from freely planned routes.

A separate footpath leads to the Cascata della Troggia. It begins in the hamlet of I Forni in Introbio. Those planning this route should therefore first head to I Forni as the starting point for the path to the Cascata. For day planning, the hamlet is thus the first specific reference point before the route leads to the Cascata.

Climbing at the Falesie di Introbio

The Falesie di Introbio also focus attention on climbing: the area offers this opportunity and includes routes graded from 2a to 8c. For planning your climbing day, the grade of each route provides a specific point of reference. The Falesie di Introbio are an independent climbing focus alongside the footpath to the Cascata della Troggia.

Path to the climbing area

You can reach the Falesie di Introbio from the cycle and footpath via the bridge over the Pioverna. You then continue to the right along an unpaved road. For orientation on site, this creates a fixed sequence of path, bridge and road.

San Michele, Villa Migliavacca and the garden tree

The church of San Michele in Introbio can be traced back to the 13th century. Its single-nave structure has a vaulted ceiling, as well as a rectangular apse and two side chapels.

San Michele also houses a 15th-century four-part altarpiece depicting the Madonna and Saints Antonio Abate and Gottardo. The church building therefore predates the altarpiece.

Villa Migliavacca is another defining feature of the townscape. The building is characterized by brick façades with interspersed graffiti and serves as the town hall. In front of the villa stands Il Faggio di Introbio, an ornamental boxwood tree that is also regarded as a green monument in the villa's garden. The tree has a circumference of 4 metres, a diameter of 125 centimetres and is over 20 metres tall.
