Casaloldo is a destination for you if you would like to learn about Italian local history not only through grand buildings, but also through individual, clearly defined historical testimonies. The Torre Civica is the only surviving part of the former Castello dei Casaloldi. The Teatro della Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Its ceiling is decorated with friezes, garlands and theatre symbols. Churches and Historic Estates

The parish church, dedicated to the Beata Maria Vergine Assunta and S. Emiliano, was built between 1714 and 1720 by the architect Giovanni Maria Borsotto. Another historic testimony is Corte Molinello. The estate has existed since 1400 and includes a stately residence, a chapel and agricultural land. A church dedicated to San Luigi Gonzaga was built on the historic Corte Molinello complex in 1645. Until the beginning of the 20th century, Corte Molinello served as a summer residence for the ladies of the Collegio.

Memorial Sites

The Monumento dei Caduti commemorates the fallen of Casaloldo from the First and Second World Wars. The Monumento dei Caduti on Via Montegrappa is accessible to people with disabilities.

The Giardino dei Giusti delle Nazioni di Casaloldo was inaugurated on 6 March 2021 and was the second Giardino dei Giusti in the Mantuan area. A plant has been designated there for each commemorated Righteous person who distinguished themselves through an act of justice in defence of human dignity.

A Path Through the Open Landscape

The landscape can also be explored via a clearly defined route. The 25-kilometre Itinerario Francescano begins in Casaloldo, follows white or lightly trafficked roads, and includes unpaved sections through open countryside. If you enjoy including longer distances in your daily itinerary, you should plan for the length and changing surfaces as key features. The route is therefore particularly suited to interests that value not only individual historic sites, but also the landscape and the experience of travelling through it.

The Sagra di San Luigi is an old village festival held on the last Sunday in October. At the Festa del 17 Gennaio, typical products are sampled. These two festivals have different focuses in the annual calendar: the Sagra di San Luigi is tied to a set Sunday in October, while the Festa del 17 Gennaio places the enjoyment of typical products at the centre.
