Pioltello between History and Culture
Pioltello combines archaeological traces, cultural institutions and green spaces to create a diverse local landscape. West of Seggiano in Pioltello, traces of a necropolis dating from the Late Roman period of the 3rd to 4th centuries AD were discovered. Its historical range extends from the Late Roman necropolis to the bronze portal inaugurated on 8 December 2004.
Local History and Cultural Highlights
The “A. Manzoni” Library offers free loans of books, music, films and magazines. Its local history section, established in 1998, collects written and pictorial documents on the history of Pioltello and neighboring municipalities and makes them available for consultation. The cultural offering therefore ranges from everyday media services to a closer examination of the development of the town and its surrounding area.
Music is also a distinct focus. The Civico Istituto musicale “G. Puccini” offers the opportunity to study classical and modern instruments as well as other musical disciplines. Its program is divided into classical, jazz, pop, rock and electronic music, with more than 30 teachers working there. Cascina Dugnana, a historic farmstead, is used for cultural events and events involving local organizations. This musical focus can therefore be considered alongside historic sites and deliberately combined with the event-related character of Cascina Dugnana when planning your visit.
At the Santuario dell’Immacolata, a bronze portal depicting the Five Mysteries of Light was inaugurated on 8 December 2004; it was designed by Paolo Palombella. Another special feature is the intact glass cup from Pioltello, considered a unique find of exceptional significance and interest. Stralimito also adds a non-competitive run through Limito, open to everyone and attracting new participants every year.
Green Spaces and Outdoor Routes
Parco del Castelletto is located within Parco Agricolo Sud. The park offers outdoor activities on level paths, through wooded areas and across small footbridges.
In the area around Pioltello are Cascina Imperiale and Villa Visconti D'Aragona, both of which are considered palaces. HangarBicocca and BesanĂ s Round Terrace are also nearby and are considered museums. In the immediate vicinity are Parco delle Cascine and Besozza, which are considered parks. Porta Garibaldi and Arco della Pace are regarded as natural arches in the surrounding area. Around Pioltello, these themes are complemented by additional palaces, museums, parks and natural arches as further local points of interest.
