Castello D'agogna Among Castles, Rice Fields and Lomellina Culture

Castello d'Agogna combines fortified history, sacred architecture and the landscape of Lomellina, shaped by rice fields. The fortified Castello d'Agogna was built between the 12th and 13th centuries as a military complex (Castrum). The archives of Castello Isimbardi preserve more than 40,000 historic documents, including maps and cartographic representations of Lomellina dating from 1100 to the 20th century. The permanent exhibition “Terre d'Acque” uses historic maps and drawings to illustrate changes in the landscape of Lomellina. This makes the development of this area, shaped by water and agriculture, tangible from different cultural perspectives.

Sacred architecture also reveals different historical layers. The parish church of Natività di Maria Vergine combines a modern façade with an older building structure; inside, it preserves numerous works by local artists. Next to Castello Isimbardi stands the church of San Martino, an example of local sacred architecture featuring frescoes and sacred artworks. Rice Fields and Parkland

Around Castello d'Agogna stretches the typical agricultural landscape of Lomellina, with rice fields, bodies of water, rural farmsteads and historic farmhouses. Tall trees, roses and geraniums grow in the park, which also contains a bamboo grove.
