Montù Beccaria: Wine, Art and History

Church art in San Michele

The parish of San Michele Arcangelo in Montù Beccaria was established in August 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII at the request of Count Manfredi Beccaria. The parish church of San Michele contains two paintings attributed to Gaudenzio Ferrari. The church also has a Baroque-style altar. This brings together medieval local history, Italian art and a clearly recognisable historical style within one ecclesiastical building.

Castello, Castellazzo and the theatre

The Castello di Montù Beccaria is considered the town’s most important historical and artistic landmark. The Castellazzo complex, located on the hill, retains little of its original function as a fortification. Most of the surviving buildings belong to a college built by the Barnabites in the 17th century. The Teatro Dardano provides another cultural highlight: it is considered one of the oldest theatres in the Oltrepò, was restored and returned to its former function.

The 2026 edition of Agosto Montuese included the 60th Mostra dei Vini. The programme featured menus served at the tables, as well as open-air concerts.
