Monale between Puppets and Architectural History

Monale can be discovered from several perspectives. One cultural highlight is the MuBuM, which displays more than 600 puppets created by people from the region. This gives you a tangible way to experience the culture shaped by the region. The focus is not only on the number of puppets, but also on their regional origins. The MuBuM therefore gives your stay a distinctive cultural theme.

Cultural Destinations in the Town and Surrounding Area

Castello Scarampi is an imposing medieval building with magnificent views of the Alps. Its history is linked to a specific date: in 1305, Castello Scarampi was destroyed and rebuilt by the Asinari family. Its architecture, views and this historic turning point offer a distinct perspective on the history of the town.

The MuBuM comprises four themed rooms: the room of the traveling puppeteer, the room of whispered stories, the room of shadows and the room of wonders. Each offers its own experiences and workshops. Advance booking is required for individual visits as well as guided individual visits. The four rooms give the museum visit a clear thematic structure.

Several cultural destinations can also be found around Monale: Castello di Piea, the Museo Diocesano “San Giovanni” and Palazzo Mazzola. The Ente Parchi Astigiani museum is also located there. This allows your stay to be extended beyond the MuBuM and Castello Scarampi with additional cultural sites.

Parks and the 8BM Stage

Three parks are also available for excursions in the surrounding area: Parco Rio Crosio, Parco Biberach Ander Riss and Parco Monte Rainero. They expand the selection with additional specific destinations to include in your stay planning.

The 8BM stage from Valleandona to Castellero/Monale offers a perspective of its own. It is suitable for hikers and families, as well as for mountain-bike tours and horseback riding. The stage can be hiked year-round; spring and autumn, as well as cooler times of day in summer, are preferred. Its route passes over a mix of unpaved roads, trails and asphalt.

The work “Vesod” depicts a large, pointed shell enclosing Monale. It was intended to convey a message of solidarity. The motif adds a directly visible statement to the cultural impressions.

Planning Your Time in Monale

For planning your days in Monale, the practical priorities also differ: a museum visit can be organized with advance booking, while the 8BM stage involves a combination of season, time of day and changing terrain. The stage therefore requires different preparation from a visit to the established cultural sites in the town and surrounding area.
