Forest, Valley and Quiet Paths

Bolzano Novarese is best explored through its landscapes. The Lungo Agogna path leads into the Agogna Valley and runs through woodland with chestnut trees, oaks and hazel bushes. The combination of the valley and the varied deciduous woodland gives the surrounding area a distinctly natural character.

Another route is the Piana di Piola – Colle di Artogno – Colle di Colonico path. It passes through an oak forest, by the Barsanella spring and past Scots pines. This path also reaches the edge of the Riserva Naturale della Torre di Buccione nature reserve.

An Artificial Lake with a Changing Function

The artificial Laghetto di Boiro was created for fishing in the 1960s. It had been out of operation since the early 1990s; today, it is used by the A.I.B. forest fire prevention corps as a water reservoir. The lake thus represents both the history of how a landscape feature has been used and its present-day function.

Romanesque Architecture and Local History

The Chiesa di San Martino “di Ingravo” is a particularly significant point of cultural and historical interest. Its first construction phase probably dates back to the 12th century, and it is an example of rural Romanesque architecture. Frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries have been preserved inside. The architecture and furnishings thus reveal several historical periods within a single building.

The Oratorio San Carlo is dedicated to Saint Carlo Borromeo. A plan of the Oratorio San Carlo discovered in the State Archives of Novara is dated 1624. For visitors interested in culture, this creates a link between religious dedication, regional history and a specifically dated historical document.
