Cavaglio D'agogna between Church Art and the Baraggia Landscape

Sacred Art with a Story of Its Own

Cavaglio D'agogna combines sacred art, traces of older buildings and a distinctive landscape. If you would like to understand a place not only through a single attraction, but through its churches, paths and surroundings, you will find several different points of connection here.

At the center is the Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Mamante. It was almost completely rebuilt in the first half of the 18th century; the exterior work was completed in 1728, and the interior work in 1732. The furnishings include five altars. Among them is a marble high altar built in 1732 and dedicated to San Mamante. The church is the only church in the Province of Novara dedicated to this saint.

The Oratorio di San Rocco was built in 1631 by the community of Cavaglio after the town had been spared from a plague. Frescoes from the 18th century have been preserved inside. They depict a guardian angel as well as Saint Bernard defeating the devil with a chain. Another sacred stop is the Chiesa della Madonna della Neve. It contains a restored fresco of the Madonna nursing the Child, flanked by Saint Peter and Saint Sebastian.

The Chiesa della Madonna della Neve consists of an older chapel dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie and a church dedicated to the Madonna della Neve. The two structures are connected by two arches. Access is directly from the forecourt. This makes it possible to include the architectural connection between the two consecrated areas directly in your visit.

Traces by the Water and in the Townscape

The former mill is also part of the local architectural history. It is attributed to the 16th century and is located along the Roggia Molinara. The former mill is visible from Via Martiri and Via Matteotti. Its location on the Roggia connects the view of the building with a concrete reference to the area's former use.

Baraggia and Routes through the Colline Novaresi

The old fluvioglacial terrace of Cavaglio features a Baraggia landscape with level woodland, heathland and vineyards. This system of old fluvioglacial terraces is recognized as a biotope and protected by the Parco Regionale delle Baragge di Pian del Rosa. The landscape, vineyards and woodland therefore offer a different way of experiencing Cavaglio d’Agogna than its sacred buildings.

A section of Il Cammino delle Colline Novaresi also passes through the town: after crossing the provincial road Cavaglio d’Agogna–Ghemme, the Cavallirio–Barengo section reaches the center of Cavaglio via a turnoff. For Cavaglio d’Agogna, a connection with the SAF bus service on the Novara–Borgomanero line is also indicated. This helps you consider cultural and landscape themes separately when planning your trip.

For a different perspective on the region, there is “BicinVigna con Antonelli”. The cycling tour passes through the Colline Novaresi, crosses the Parco del Monte Fenera, the Piano Rosa and the Baraggia, and runs between woods and vineyards. A local festival date adds to the sacred impressions: the wooden statue of Saint Roch is carried in a procession on 16 August, the day of the town district festival.
