Alpette between Craftsmanship, Chapels and Mountain Trails

Alpette combines traces of its former copperworking tradition, sacred art and paths into the mountain landscape.

Alpette was formerly known as “terra dei mastri ramai” (“land of the coppersmiths”), as copperworking was a local tradition there.

Chapels and Churches with Their Own History

The Cappella della Madonna della neve combines architectural history and religious art: the chapel was built in 1883 by the family of Seren Piocca Giacomo and Giovanna, and its façade is decorated with frescoes of the saints San Francesco, San Giacomo and Sant'Agostino. The Cappella di San Rocco was built in honour of San Rocco after the plague of 1523 and probably dates from the 16th century. The “pane della carità” is still distributed there today.

The Chiesa dell'Immacolata preserves an icon from the second half of the 17th century depicting the Immaculate Virgin; its loggia is decorated with frescoes of the saints San Pietro and San Giuseppe. The Parrocchiale dei Santi Pietro e Paolo has four coloured windows created in 1998 by the artist Padre Costantino Ruggeri. The Polo Astronomico “Don Giovanni Capace”, consisting of an observatory and a planetarium, provides a different accent. The Polo Astronomico complements the sacred sites with an observatory and a planetarium. Celebrations in honour of San Giacomo take place in the Chiesa di San Giacomo on 25 July. 25 July is therefore a specific date that can be taken into account when planning a visit. For those interested in culture, Alpette brings together frescoes on a façade and loggia with an icon and four coloured windows.

From Borgata Trione to Monte Soglio

Borgata Trione was recognised as an authentic mountain village by UNCEM PIEMONTE in 2014. Part of the former network of paths around Borgata Trione is still used for hiking. Monte Soglio is 1,971 metres high and can be reached on foot from Alpette in approximately three hours. Anyone planning to walk to Monte Soglio from Alpette should allow around three hours for the journey. For Monte Soglio, both the destination elevation of 1,971 metres and the approximate time required for the walk should therefore be taken into account.

Another link between religious heritage and the mountain landscape leads to the Cappella votiva della Madonna del Pilone. It was built in 1954 by the local population and is located on the path to Cima Mares, the highest point of Alpette's mountain, at 1,570 metres above sea level. Those heading to Cima Mares should therefore plan for a destination at 1,570 metres above sea level.

In addition, Alpette has six equipped picnic areas. Travellers can plan a break outdoors at one of Alpette's six equipped picnic areas.
