Cinzano: Historic Centre, Alpine Views and Wine

Cinzano lies in the green area of the Collina Torinese and offers views of the gentle valleys of Monferrato and the Alpine range. The town combines this landscape with a distinctive historic heritage: Il Castello comprises the castle, the park, the former outbuildings and the parish church, and today forms a historic settlement centre separated from the rest of the town.

Il Castello, Ricetto and Sant’Antonio Abate

The medieval, walled Ricetto around Il Castello developed from the 11th century onwards around the large square tower.

The parish church of Sant’Antonio Abate stands on a hill at the end of an ascent from Cinzano’s central Piazza; the path then continues to the castle. An archival drawing from the 15th century shows the church immediately beside the walls of the medieval Ricetto. Parts of these walls were probably incorporated into the foundations of the present-day church. Sant’Antonio Abate was rebuilt in the 18th century: the nave was extended, the decorated surfaces were restored and a new façade was constructed.

The Biblioteca Comunale – Caffè Letterario is also connected with the town’s architectural history. It is housed in a former 17th-century town hall overlooking the Piazzetta del Podio. The building also contains an exhibition hall and a conference hall. The Piazzetta del Podio hosts outdoor events, performances and, in particular, readings for children.

Landscape and trails around Cinzano

From Parco Santa Maria, the view extends to the Alpine arc, the Basilica di Superga, and the hills of the Collina Torinese and Monferrato.

For the Anello 9 Cinzano circular route of the Cammino di Don Bosco, the municipality provides a route description and a map; the route runs within the municipality of Cinzano. The Superga–Vezzolano–Crea hiking trail comprises five stages, including variants, and is 115 km long in total. The Superga–Crea route of the Cammino di Don Bosco passes through Bardassano, Sciolze and Cinzano before reaching the Abbey of Vezzolano, and runs through forests and vineyards and past castles.

The two route formats offer different options for your planning: the circular route remains within the municipality of Cinzano, while the multi-stage hiking trail covers several stages and a total distance of 115 km.

Families, sports and practical information

Parco Santa Maria has a children’s area for children aged 0 to 14, with age-appropriate play equipment. For exercise away from the hiking trails, the Centro Sportivo Comunale is available, offering facilities for five-a-side football, tennis, bocce and walking.

Wine and local character

Stefano Rossotto offers wine tastings and tours of the winery in Cinzano. Azienda agricola Rossotto Stefano produces the wines Collina Torinese Bonarda, Collina Torinese Malvasia, Collina Torinese Rosso and Freisa.

The local wine culture also includes the Fiera dei Vini della Collina Torinese, a wine fair in Cinzano. In 2024, its 28th edition is associated with Piazza Sant’Antonio Abate.
