Gravere Between History and Landscape

The Gravere area offers opportunities for nature-based leisure activities. Historical and regional highlights include silver mining in Arnodera, religious sites, fortresses and peaks with various regional connections.

Silver Mining in Arnodera

The Miniera del Rugèt is an old silver mine in the Arnodera district. The explored network of tunnels is approximately 450 metres long. Telephone reservations are required for access; visitors are accompanied by an authorised guide.

Certosa di Madonna della Losa

According to tradition, Benedictines had already settled at the Certosa di Madonna della Losa in the 9th century. The Certosa chapel is dated to the middle of the 9th century. From the parking area in Madonna della Losa, you can reach the Certosa on foot via a level path of approximately 200 metres.

Case Eremitani and Its Secluded History

The Case Eremitani is an old group of houses where hermits lived. The Carthusian monks of Losa may have used the houses for prayer, study and handicrafts in seclusion. The road to Pian Gelassa branches off the SP254 at kilometre 7+800; at the third hairpin bend, a path leads to the Fontanette mountain pasture, and the Case Eremitani are approximately 100 metres further on the left.

Fortresses in the Regional Area

Forte di Exilles is a fortress in the area around Gravere. Abbazia di Novalesa is also a monastery in the area around Gravere. Chiesa Santa Maria Maggiore is a church in the immediate vicinity of Gravere. Further afield in the region is Fort de La Turra, another fortress. Batteria Militare del Trucco was also known as Batteria della Losa and was built in 1891. It consisted of a ditch enclosing two separate batteries on two different levels. An internal road connected these two batteries and provided access to an observation post.

Meadows, Forests and Peaks

The Gravere area is characterised by meadows interspersed with forests and offers opportunities for nature-based leisure activities. Monte Orsiera is a peak in the wider regional area around Gravere, while Rocciamelone is a mountain in this area. Cime de Bard and Pointe Baraccon de Chamois are also peaks in the wider regional area around Gravere.
