Historic Places with Piedmontese Character

Vestignè brings together several historic sites and buildings bearing tangible traces of different eras. Casa della Cella consists of the ruins of an 11th-century monastery built near the first Roman castrum. At Cascina Valperga, you will encounter a Piedmontese manor house in the late Baroque style. An old casemate is integrated into the building and preserves 16th-century frescoes.

The religious buildings also make different stages of the town’s history visible. The present-day building of the Chiesa della Confraternita della Santissima Trinità dates from 1600. The Chiesa di San Rocco was rebuilt in 1846; its altarpiece, Pala di San Rocco, was restored by Professor Mosca in 1924. The history of the buildings and later artistic additions can be traced here through concrete structures.

Churches, Frescoes and Religious History

The Parrocchiale di Santa Maria Assunta e San Germano was built from 1843 onwards based on designs by the engineer Larghi from Vercelli. Its figurative frescoes were created by Costantino Mussello, while the decorative frescoes are by the painters Giovanni Barberis and Antonio Pedoia. Architecture, figurative scenes and decorative design come together in this religious building, offering visitors interested in culture several points of focus for close observation.

The Chiesa della Confraternita della Santissima Trinità stands beside the Canton del Villario gate, the entrance to Vestignè from the direction of Ivrea. Historically, the Confraternita della Trinità supported pilgrims and people in need. The religious surroundings also include the Santuario di Povigliano. It stands in Vignamora, about one kilometre from Vestignè, in a landscape characterised by a rural setting. The feast of the Santuario di Povigliano takes place in August and follows a three-hundred-year-old tradition.

Walks and Different Travel Interests

A short walk leads from Vestignè to Castello di Masino; Castello di Masino can be reached and visited along this route. The route „Al Molino di Guadalungo“ continues towards Tina, a hamlet of Vestignè. The San Rocco celebration is limited to a morning Mass with an auction and a prayer service in the afternoon. Alongside architecture and local history, this provides a walk, a route into the surrounding area and religious events as different travel interests.

Festivals, Music and Local Specialities

Local events include the Storico Carnevale vestignese, which recreates the historic transition from the fiefdom of the Counts Valperga di Masino to an independent municipality based on a document from 1438. The Società Filarmonica Antica Vestignese was founded in 1820; since then, it has continuously participated in civil and religious events in Vestignè and the surrounding area. At Le Pro Loco in Festa, 17 Pro Loco associations prepare their specialities. The Palio dei Borghi was revived as a community event featuring challenges, shared enjoyment, and physical and mental training.

For practical orientation, the individual sites remain distinguishable: no architectural barriers or admission fee are indicated for Casa della Cella, Cascina Valperga or Santuario di Povigliano.
