In the area of San Sperate, between the 6th and 3rd centuries BC, the most important of several Punic centers connected with the agricultural use of the hinterland was also located in the Località Santu Srebastianu.

The former parish church of San Giovanni Battista combines Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic stylistic elements. The Church of Santa Lucia dates back to the Byzantine period, features Romanesque additions and has Baroque architecture. Together with the mural movement developed since 1968, these buildings and art forms offer different ways of accessing the town’s history. The mural movement emerged from the project initiated by Pinuccio Sciola to transform San Sperate into a creative workshop.
