Luddui is a Gallurese-speaking village situated on a hill. From its elevated location, you can look out over the sea; parts of the northeastern coast are visible, as are the islands of Tavolara and Molara to the north. The view places the horizon and the landscape surrounding the village at the centre of attention.
Numerous waterways run through Luddui and are among the defining features of the village’s landscape. Several beaches are located nearby: Spiaggia di Porto Ottiolu, Spiaggia Li Cuppulati, Spiaggia dell'Isuledda and Spiaggia di Budoni.
Gallurese Culture and History
At the beginning of the 20th century, around ten related families lived in Luddui. A stazzo was an agricultural and pastoral family farm; everyday life revolved around a granite house consisting of a single room. The stazzo emerged approximately between 1600 and 1700 and was the home of Gallurese families.
Life in the stazzi was shaped by the work cycles of grain, milk, wine and meat. On “Budoni verso nord”, the choice between the two options for planning the day depends on your own fitness level. A historical connection with the landscape has also been passed down: livestock farmers from Luddui came to La Custera to water their animals.
Cultural Destinations in the Surrounding Area
For cultural and historical excursions, the Museo delle civiltĂ del mare - ICIMAR is located near Luddui. The Castello della Fava is also nearby. Further afield in the region are the Museo Casa Oggiano and the ancient site of Su Monte de S'Ape. The different distances are relevant to your planning: not every destination is in the immediate vicinity of the village, but Luddui is part of a broader context of regional history, museums and historic sites.
Cycling Tour and Directions for Your Journey
The “Budoni verso nord” cycling tour heads towards Agrustos and Luddui. Luddui lies at an altitude of 290 metres and is considered the highest and particularly scenic panoramic viewpoint in the entire area. The cycling tour is suitable for everyone and, depending on your fitness level, gives you the choice between more demanding, scenic sections and a mostly flat route.
If you are travelling from Budoni, follow the SS125 north towards Agrustos. Then follow the signs to Luddui and drive through the village to the summit. This clearly connects the journey with the landscape experience offered by the elevated location.
