Folgaria: High Plateau, Winter Sports and Historic Paths
Accommodation in Folgaria
Folgaria on the High Plateau
Folgaria lies at 1,170 m above sea level. Meadows, streams and lush forests characterize the area. On the high plateau lies the Biotopo di Echen, a rare peat bog in a karst area at an altitude of around 1,260 m. Wetland plants, reptiles and amphibians are part of this natural area. For those interested in nature, the peat bog, with its plants, reptiles and amphibians, forms a distinct thematic focus.
Winter Sports in the Ski Area
The Folgaria-Lavarone ski area covers 104 kilometers, spread across 66 ski slopes. In the Alpe Cimbra ski area, alpine skiing, ski touring, snowboarding, freeriding, cross-country skiing and fat biking are possible. The Alpe Cimbra ski area thus covers several winter sports, not just alpine skiing.
Fortresses and Rural Cultural Heritage
Forte Sommo Alto was built on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 1,613 m between 1911 and 1914. Forte Cherle was constructed between 1910 and 1913 on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 1,445 m. The construction periods overlap from 1911 to 1913; at the same time, Sommo Alto is located on the higher of the two hills. Sommo Alto is 168 m higher than Cherle.
Forte Cherle was heavily bombarded but was not subjected to direct attacks. It can be reached via an easy walk of around 500 m that is suitable for everyone. Some interior passages of Forte Cherle can be walked through.
Maso Spilzi is a fortified farmstead from the 18th century. The Cimbrian place name “Tåntz” also refers to local tradition: it means “dance” and preserves the memory of rituals and dances of the former mountain inhabitants.
Paths through Landscape and Memory

The 4.6-kilometer route runs along a front-line trench from Serrada to Dosso delle Somme and leads between high rock walls on the upper slope above the Terragnolo valley. The length gives the route a fixed framework for planning the day on site and allows it to be scheduled as a clearly defined trail; Serrada and Dosso delle Somme mark its course.
