Discover Imer: Nature Experiences and Culture
Accommodation in Imer
Peaks and the landscape of La Vederna
Cima Arinas, Cima Redasega, Monte Totoga and Bedole are located in the vicinity of Imer. All four are peaks and give the landscape around the town a distinctly mountainous character.
La Vederna presents a different type of landscape: the meadow hollow lies at an altitude of 1,300 metres on the mountain of the same name. Its use as pasture and for haymaking can be traced back to ancient times. At the same time, La Vederna is a destination and starting point for numerous excursions, including to Cros, Morosna and Monte Pavione. The altitude of 1,300 metres is an independent planning value for La Vederna when preparing an excursion. The three destinations can be noted as separate points in the day's itinerary.
Nature experiences and orientation in the town
The Val Noana Botanical Garden covers approximately one hectare and recreates eight habitats from the protected natural area. Located in a Natura 2000 site designated as a Site of Community Importance, it provides access to a limited section of this natural environment. The garden therefore covers approximately one hectare; this area figure refers to the garden, while the eight habitats from the protected natural area are recreated there. For nature enthusiasts, the focus is on the presentation of different habitats in a spatially manageable setting.
The Percorso sensoriale in Imer was designed as an accessible nature experience for locals and tourists. It comprises seven stations with artistic or functional installations. Imer also has permanent orienteering courses: one in the town and one in the hamlet of Cappuccetto Rosso. A map is available from the tourist office. For navigation during the run, the map at the tourist office is the specific point of reference. Thus, in the town you will find both a themed nature trail and orienteering with two spatially separate courses.
Culture in the town and the surrounding area
An 18th-century exterior fresco can be seen on the Chiesa di Imèr. It depicts Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travellers, carrying the Christ Child across a river. The motif connects the local church with a depiction whose subject is directly associated with travel.
The wider regional surroundings of Imer include ex Forte Dossaccio and Covolo di Butistone, both fortresses, as well as Castel Telvana, a castle. Those interested in culture can complement the local connection of the Chiesa di Imèr with the fortresses ex Forte Dossaccio and Covolo di Butistone and with Castel Telvana in the wider area. Together with the fresco at the Chiesa di Imèr, these structures offer a cultural perspective on different forms of historic architecture—from fortified structures to sacred art.
