Religious History and Local Character

Montanare combines religious history with historical references and routes into the landscape. The parish of Montanare is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. At the same time, the historical place name “Montanina” refers to present-day Montanare; Montanina was located on a road from Castiglion Fiorentino. In Montanare, the Festa di San Giovanni Battista was also celebrated annually on the last Sunday in June. San Giovanni Battista is the Italian name for Saint John the Baptist; the name of the festival and the dedication of the parish therefore refer to the same saint.
