Valley between Arezzo and Valtiberina

Palazzo del Pero is located in the Valcerfone, a valley through which the Cerfone stream flows, situated between the city of Arezzo and the Valtiberina. There, the elevations are interrupted by the narrow valley of the Cerfone. Near Palazzo del Pero, the valley runs parallel to the Strada Statale 73; this road connects Arezzo with Sansepolcro and Città di Castello. Subalpine surroundings and mountain views

The Palazzo del Pero area has subalpine surroundings due to the valley's orientation towards the north and its enclosure to the south. Monte Favalto, which belongs to the Alpe di Poti complex and lies on the ridge between the lower Valtiberina and Valdichiana, offers a 360-degree panorama. Monte Corneta is located nearby. Monte Castiglion Maggio, Monte Scopiccio and Monte Civitella are also situated in the surrounding area. Mountain-biking and hiking routes

Palazzo del Pero is the starting and finishing point for numerous mountain-biking routes. One of them is a 42-kilometre circular route: it starts and ends in Palazzo del Pero, passes through Dogana, Poggio della Caccia, Poggio dello Sbirro, Poggio di Bivignano, Le Terrine and Molin Nuovo, and then returns to Palazzo del Pero. The defined circular format and specific distance provide the tour with a clear planning structure, while the other mountain-biking routes offer different route options. A CAI hike published on 15 April 2018 also began in Palazzo del Pero and headed towards Monte Favalto.

Memorial site, art and museums

Behind the village, towards Molin Nuovo on the Strada Statale 73, there is a small memorial site. A historical connection leads to the church of San Donnino: on 17 November 1527, Giorgio Vasari agreed with the parish priest of San Donnino to paint a fresco of Saint Roch above the baptismal font. The Palazzo del Pero area is also home to the La Grande Art Gallery museum, the ancient site of Anfiteatro Romano Arezzo, the Palazzo Fraternità dei Laici palace and the Museum Ivan Bruschi Arezzo museum. The cultural horizon therefore extends from an ecclesiastical commission to several destinations in the surrounding area.

Festa del Fungo

The Festa del Fungo in Palazzo del Pero is part of the local annual calendar. It takes place every year on the second weekend of September, although the specific dates may vary. Anyone placing the village in context on this occasion should therefore understand the September weekend as a recurring period rather than an unchanging date. Together with the mountain and valley themes, the festival adds a seasonal event to Palazzo del Pero's cultural and local character.
