Capannuccia: Culture, Routes and Historic Places
Capannuccia offers a range of concrete opportunities for cultural and active days: the town is home to the Chiesa di San Giuseppe, and the “Bagno a Ripoli cycletour” circular cycling route is also connected with a start in Capannuccia. Museums and gardens in the surrounding area and the wider region add to the options for individual excursions.
Church and connection to the town
The Chiesa di San Giuseppe is located in Capannuccia. For information about access and opening hours, contact the parish directly. If you plan to visit, you can clarify both points directly with the responsible authority.
Cycling and running events
The “Bagno a Ripoli cycletour” circular cycling route is connected with a start in Capannuccia, where public parking is available. This means the town can be considered as a starting point when planning a cycling tour. The Campestre “Parco di Mondeggi” also has a specific connection to the town: its sixth edition included a 10 km competitive race, a non-competitive run over the same distance and a 5 km walk. The meeting point and bib collection were at 7:30 a.m. in the park’s car park in Capannuccia.
A four-stage route
For longer hiking plans, there is the “Borghi e colline – A piedi intorno a Bagno a Ripoli” route. It is 43 km long, divided into four stages, and connects signposted paths, local roads and minor roads in the Bagno a Ripoli area. The stage structure helps you clearly distinguish a single hike from a longer, multi-stage route.
Antico Spedale del Bigallo and Oratorio Santa Caterina delle Ruote
At the Antico Spedale del Bigallo, historic substance combines with present-day use. The building complex was founded in 1214 by Dioticidiede di Bonaguida del Dado. A hostel has been established in the already restored rooms. The Antico Spedale includes an impressive hall with a coffered ceiling and pulpit, as well as a monumental kitchen; the hall is now used as a conference room.
The Oratorio Santa Caterina delle Ruote was built from 1354 onwards on the Rimezzano estate on the slopes of Poggio di Baroncelli. The Fonte della Fata Morgana, also known as Casina delle Fate, is located near Grassina and was built by Bernardo Vecchietti in the second half of the 16th century. The two places date from different historical periods.
Museums, palace and gardens
The Museo Horne, Palazzo Pitti, the Museo degli Argenti and the Galleria del Costume are located in the vicinity of Capannuccia. The Museo Horne, the Museo degli Argenti and the Galleria del Costume are museums; Palazzo Pitti is a palace. This gives you a clearly identifiable choice between museum destinations and a historic palace when planning your day.
In the wider regional surroundings of Capannuccia, Il Pratone is a mountain, while the Giardino Corsi is a garden. The Giardino Torrigiani and the Giardino Del Museo Archeologico are also located near Capannuccia; both are gardens. Depending on your preferred focus, these different connections to places and landscapes can be incorporated into your travel plans.
If you would like to compare other destinations in the same area, you can also visit Le Case San Romolo.
