Fornaci Incisa: Cultural Heritage, Historic Routes and Cycle Path

Fornaci Incisa reveals a side of Italy where the river landscape, architectural history and routes belong together. Here, the Arno connects the site of the Torre with the parallel cycle path.

Architecture along the Arno

At Fornaci Incisa stands the Castello dell’Incisa, which is also known as the Torre del Bandinelli and Torre della Bandinella. The Torre del Bandinelli stands on the right bank of the Arno, elevated above the road. It has a square floor plan and is crowned with battlements. The Castello dell’Incisa, also known as the Torre del Bandinelli, is protected architectural heritage. The Torre dominates the Arno Valley and the town of Incisa. It dates from the 14th century and was integrated into a larger, lower agricultural building. In the townscape of Fornaci Incisa, the riverbank, tower and integrated agricultural structure therefore meet spatially.

Historic Routes and Cultural Sites

Historic route connections complement the architecture. The Via di San Donato was one of the two historic royal roads at this location; the valley-floor road was the more recent of the two historic royal roads. Practical Orientation on Site

A 200-metre-long footpath was built along Regional Road 69 between Località Fornaci di Reggello and the cemetery of Incisa. Routes 351 A, 355 and 360 A operate from the „FORNACE“ stop in Fornaci Incisa. The Le Fornaci car park, with 30 spaces, was built near the bridge over the Arno and directly below the Torre della Bandinella. There is a charging station for electric vehicles in the delle Fornaci car park near Incisa. The similarly named Le Fornaci and delle Fornaci refer to two separate car parks. For drivers, this means that parking spaces near the Arno bridge and a charging point near Incisa are located at different reference points.

Cycle Path along the River

The cycle path runs along a flat section parallel to the Arno and passes below and beside the Torre della Bandinella. The route crosses a bridge and then continues along the Lungarno Giacomo Matteotti. On the cycle path towards Ciliegi, you can continue on foot or by bicycle. Brown signposts indicate the continuation of the cycle path towards the Torre della Bandinella. For the direction of Ciliegi, both continuing on foot and continuing by bicycle are expressly intended.
