Marcoiano Between Landscape and History

Marcoiano combines a largely unspoiled natural landscape along the Tavaiano stream with churches, art and historical route connections. Santa Maria a Marcoiano: Bell Tower and Chapel

Two of the three bells in the square bell tower of Santa Maria a Marcoiano were cast in 1385 and 1585. On its right-hand side, the church preserves the chapel of the Compagnia della SS. Vergine. These two details give you a specific reason to view Santa Maria a Marcoiano through its bells and chapel.

Another testimony to the local history of art can now be found outside Marcoiano: a panel painting from the Florentine school depicting the enthroned Virgin and Child between Saints Macarius and Anthony Abbot, from Santa Maria a Marcoiano, is kept at the Museo d’arte sacra Beato Angelico in Vicchio. The visit can thus be mentally extended beyond the village as far as Vicchio.

Il Poggio and Ponte all’Olmo

At Il Poggio, an elevated location beyond the center of Marcoiano, extensive remains of old buildings and the remains of a fortress belonging to the Cadolingi are visible.

The Oratorio di Ponte all’Olmo was incorporated into the church of Santa Maria in 1568. Hiking Trails to Passo dell’Osteria Bruciata

One of the nine municipal circular routes, I Percorsi dell’Asfodelo, leads from Marcoiano via Castellana to Passo dell’Osteria Bruciata. Hikers can also reach the pass by turning onto Sentiero 50/a in the direction of Paracchia. If you enjoy combining your time with routes through landscape and history, these two paths provide concrete starting points for planning.

Passo dell’Osteria Bruciata is also part of Marcoiano’s older transport history. Before 1309, Marcoiano was an important point of reference on the transport route running over the pass, which provided access to Romagna. Today’s route orientation is therefore connected to a historical context that points far beyond a single walk.

Festa Popolare 2026

The 42nd edition of the Festa Popolare was announced in Marcoiano for 2026. Live music and dancing with orchestras from the surrounding area are planned. The menu is set to include tortelli, stewed wild boar, fried frogs and grilled meat.
