Pian De' Cerri: Hiking in the Hills of Scandicci
Pian dei Cerri is located in the hills of Scandicci. The trail network here is characterised by hilly terrain. On the Anello del Rinascimento, Pian dei Cerri is considered the hilliest part of the municipality of Scandicci. The hilly landscape therefore provides the common setting for the Anello stage, the cross-country hike and the trails of Sentiero 730.
The Trail Network and the Anello del Rinascimento
Sentiero 730 forms the backbone of the trail network in the hills of Scandicci, from which most of the other trails branch off. The Anello del Rinascimento passes through Pian dei Cerri. Its seventh stage is entitled “La Certosa – Pian dei Cerri – Signa”. The stage title indicates a route from La Certosa via Pian dei Cerri to Signa.
The Cross-Country Hike
A cross-country hike reaches Pian dei Cerri via trails 733 and 733A at an elevation of 372 metres. This route covers approximately 19 kilometres and is planned to take approximately six hours of walking. With this combination, the hike takes up a large part of the day and should be planned as an extended route. The combination of distance and walking time makes the cross-country hike an extensive day route through the hills of Scandicci. The approximate walking time leaves room for breaks and personal pace. From Pian dei Cerri, the cross-country hike then continues along trail 734 to the Fattoria and the Roncigliano agriturismo.
Signage and Hiking Map
The trails in the network used to reach Pian dei Cerri are equipped with horizontal and vertical signage and are well maintained. The hiking map for the area has a scale of 1:15,000. Around Pian dei Cerri, both horizontal and vertical signs are therefore available in the terrain. The map covers the area of the Scandicci trail network and complements orientation along the trails running through it. The combination of signage and map supports orientation in the terrain and route planning.
Forest, Olive Groves and Hills
A trail of the Anello del Rinascimento runs from Pian dei Cerri towards Lastra a Signa through the forests of Roveta. The forest areas of Roveta are interrupted by olive groves in a landscape overlooking the Arno. The trail therefore alternates between dense forest sections and open areas with olive groves.
Roveta and Acqua Roveta
A hike from Pian dei Cerri towards Roveta passes the ruins of the former Acqua Roveta bottling plant. The plant was in operation until 1975. The ruins add a historical connection to the former bottling plant along the route to Roveta.
