The Rocca: walls, dimensions, construction period and historical significance

The present structure of the Rocca di Castiglione di Garfagnana dates from the 14th century. At that time, the circuit of walls was expanded to a length of 750 metres and a height of 11 to 17 metres. Castiglione di Garfagnana was the most important fortress for defending the border with the Duchy of Modena.
