Gramolazzo between lake and mountain landscape

Gramolazzo is located in a place where waterscapes, paths and the established village structure stand close alongside one another. Lago di Gramolazzo is an artificial reservoir. It was created in the second half of the 20th century for the hydroelectric use of the Serchio River and its tributaries. With an area of approximately 1 km², the lake is part of Gramolazzo’s defining landscape. For travel planning purposes, the village can therefore be viewed as a lake and mountain destination.

At the northern Spallone of Poggio, known as Alpe di Ugliano, the CAI 189 Trail joins Trail 181. The route therefore connects open valley spaces with wooded, undulating landscapes.

Paese Alto is the older part of Gramolazzo and consists of stone houses. For travellers interested in traditional village architecture, this provides a specific point of reference.

The church in Gramolazzo is known locally as “Chiesa Nuova”. Above the village lies Chiesa Vecchia in an elevated position; it can be reached via small, steep roads. When planning your route, you should take this elevated location and the small, steep roads into account.
