Pierdiscini between the lake, mountain trails and cycling routes

The area around Pierdiscini offers a wide variety of starting points for a journey through the Apuan Alps: hiking trails, an artificial lake with traces of history, cycling routes and winter destinations. When planning your stay, it is worth considering the individual landscapes, paths and local connections separately. This makes it easier to decide whether you want to focus on mountain panoramas, traces of culture, cycling routes or nature experiences. Pierdiscini can therefore not be reduced to a single type of excursion.

Lake, hiking trails and historical traces

In the immediate vicinity of Pierdiscini, Isola Santa is situated beside an artificial lake. The lake was created by damming the Torrente Turrite Secca, which partially submerged the old village. Hiking trails start in Isola Santa and lead, among other places, to Monte Corchia, Freddone and Monte Penna di Sumbra. There is also a former church dedicated to San Jacopo, now deconsecrated, which was already mentioned in 1260.

Cycling routes and mountain passages

The Giro Granfondo Alpi Apuane route passes through Careggine and continues to Pierdiscini. Another cycling route is the Panorami Apuani in bici loop: a short detour from it leads to the Big Bench on Colle di Monti. The access route from Castelnuovo Garfagnana to Sumbra also passes through Pierdiscini. A short detour can be planned as a separate section of the cycling loop. This gives you a choice of a route, a short detour and an access road, without having to combine these paths into a single route.

Panoramas and nature

The section of Sentiero 145 is considered the most interesting and most scenic part of the route; a short exposed ridge section is also possible. When planning Sentiero 145, an exposed ridge section can be included as a short part of the route. The summit of Monte Sumbra offers a panorama in the immediate vicinity of Pierdiscini that is considered particularly rewarding. Sorgente Pierdiscini is assigned to the environmental system “Alte valli tra Sumbra e Tambura”. This creates a mountain profile with different points of interest: a scenic route section, a summit panorama and an assigned environmental system.

Careggine in winter

In the immediate vicinity of Pierdiscini, the Careggine ski resort has three ski lifts. They serve downhill runs in the two areas of Formica and Monte la Cima; together, the groomed slopes cover 5 kilometres. When planning a winter trip, downhill skiing and snowshoe hikes can be included as separate activities in the area. In addition, snowshoe hikes through the forests and clearings of Careggine are considered one way to explore the area.

Orientation routes

An unpaved road leads from Porta al Colle to Bosa, where the visitor centre of the Parco delle Alpi Apuane and the Museo della Fauna di Ieri are located. Bosa therefore brings together an unpaved road connection, a visitor centre and a museum.
