Rivalto between local history and regional destinations

Rivalto combines visible medieval features with a historic memorial site, a festival tradition and destinations in the surrounding area as well as the wider regional area. In the village, architectural traces, a commemorative plaque and an Oratorio that is open only during certain events come together. Added to this is the Sagra del Marrone di Rivalto in October. The spatial complement consists of the Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo, three destinations in the surrounding area and five destinations in the wider regional area.

Historic traces in the village

The medieval features of Rivalto’s historic village structure are still visible on the buildings on the northern side of Rivalto. They are therefore part of the present-day villagescape and can be viewed directly on the buildings on the northern side.

Another historic trace is the birthplace of Blessed Giordano da Rivalto. The Italian state declared it a national monument on 23 September 1926. This state designation took place before the later destruction of the building. The building was later destroyed by the effects of war. Today, a plaque commemorates it at the site. The former house therefore no longer stands here; instead, the memorial marks the location.

Oratorio and festival in October

The Oratorio della Compagnia della Santa Croce in Rivalto is opened only for certain events. It is therefore not a sightseeing spot that is open at all times. Anyone who includes the Oratorio in their plans should combine it with such an event rather than assuming that it can be visited permanently.

The Sagra del Marrone di Rivalto has taken place in Rivalto on the third weekend of October for more than half a century. The event has been announced for 17 and 18 October 2026. Anyone wishing to include the festival tradition can take the announced date of 17 October 2026 into account when planning their trip.

The Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo can be reached from Rivalto via a short walk. Anyone wishing to include a church building alongside the historic traces in the village can plan to visit Santa Maria del Carmelo via this short walk.

Destinations in the surrounding area

The Castello dei Vicari, the Parco Preistorico Peccioli archaeological site and the Ecomuseo dell'Alabastro are located in the area surrounding Rivalto. These three destinations are in the vicinity of Rivalto, not in the village itself. During a stay, they can be considered independent destinations alongside Rivalto’s historic traces.

The Museo Piaggio, Spiagge bianche, Bagno Aurora, Bagno Ausonia and Spiaggia Di Domani are located in the wider regional area surrounding Rivalto.
