Fibbialla between Landscape and Local History

Fibbialla lies at 424 metres above sea level, between vineyards and chestnut groves. Its elevation and landscape give the village a distinct rural character in the Svizzera Pesciatina.

Fibbialla is one of the ten Castella of the Svizzera Pesciatina and is considered the smallest of the ten Castella. The village centre provides the main point of orientation: it is arranged around the rectory church of San Michele. At the same time, this church marks the entrance to Fibbialla. A tour can therefore begin at this building and then continue into the village structure.

Church, Art and the Rocca

The rectory church of San Michele contains paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. It also houses a 15th-century sculpture depicting the Annunciation. The works bring together several periods of local culture and provide visitors interested in culture with a specific reason to discover Fibbialla not only as a landscape destination, but also through its sacred artworks.

The church of San Michele Arcangelo was built in the 15th century and rebuilt at the end of the 18th century. Significant remains of the Rocca are located above the church.

Trails into the Valleriana

Fibbialla offers various options for hiking and walking plans. Near Fibbialla, Sentiero Valleriana 55B is classified as an easy trekking trail. Trails from Fibbialla also lead into the Alta Valleriana. This makes it possible to plan a stay that combines a tour of the village with walks through the surrounding landscape.

A footpath connects Medicina and Fibbialla, which are separated by the Fosso Maleto. This means that not only the destination but also the connection between the two villages can become part of your route planning. If you prefer shorter stages, this footpath complements the trails leading from Fibbialla into the Alta Valleriana.

Beyond the local surroundings, the view extends to the Svizzera Pesciatina. There, a hiking trail connects the ten Castella; it begins in Pietrabuona, follows the Pescia River and takes approximately six hours. For your day planning, this longer route should therefore be considered differently from the trails leading from Fibbialla.

Fibbialla also has a culinary side: in August, the Sagra della Porchetta was held in Fibbialla.
