San Rocco: Church, Local History and Nature Experiences

San Rocco developed from a settlement whose population had been settling near the church of San Rocco since the 17th century and had grown considerably by the end of the 20th century. After separating from San Silvestro in 1884, on which San Rocco had previously depended, the settlement became an independent district. In 1887, San Rocco was recognized as a parish, distinguishing it from Larciano Alto.

Lo stupore and Local Festivals

Lo stupore is a memorial monument to the victims of the Eccidio del Padule di Fucecchio on August 23, 1944. It was inaugurated in the presence of Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. Lo stupore is step-free and accessible to all citizens.

Hiking, Cycling and Getting There

The CAI 824 hiking trail runs through flat terrain from San Rocco to Bagnolo and covers 12 km as a round trip. For cycling, the San Rocco – San Baronto – Centocampi route is designated for city bikes, touring bikes, road bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes.

From Pistoia, the recommended route follows San Baronto and Lamporecchio onward to Larciano S. Rocco. An alternative provincial road leads back to Larciano S. via Cecina, Ceppeto and Biccimuri.
