Discover Calzolaro
Accommodation in Calzolaro
Calzolaro, a hamlet in the municipality of Umbertide, combines village festival traditions with a church featuring an old baptistery, a described circular walk and Umbrian cuisine. Calzolarissimo is the annual festival tradition; the 2022 edition took place from June 16 to 19. The CAI hike passes through Comunaglia, and the restaurants reflect regional culinary traditions. When looking for hotels in Calzolaro, you can consider which of these aspects you would most like to shape your stay.
Calzolarissimo and local festival history
The Festa di Calzolarissimo is a historic village festival held every year in Calzolaro. For Calzolarissimo, held from June 16 to 19, 2022, Pro Loco Calzolaro was named as the organizer; the festival took place in the hamlet of Calzolaro in the municipality of Umbertide. Calzolarissimo was announced as the 46th edition for 2026. The annual festival tradition and specific editions from different years are thus presented side by side.
The origins of the PesceRun are also part of the festival’s sporting history: the first edition was organized in 2012 by Pro Loco and Società Sportiva Calzolaro, with support from Marathon Club Città di Castello, on the occasion of the 35th edition of the Sagra del pesce-Calzolarissimo. The course at the time was 6.8 kilometers long, mostly flat and largely paved; short sections were unpaved. These details refer to the course of the 2012 edition.
Circular walk and landscape
A different perspective is offered by a CAI hike described in 2015, which returns to its starting point to form a loop. The route “Calzolaro–Comunaglia–Belvedere alla Rocca–Santuario di Rasina–Calzolaro” starts at the parking lot opposite the preschool in Calzolaro. It passes through Comunaglia and offers views of the valley, as well as characteristic farmsteads and rural buildings in the surrounding area.
The PesceRun and the CAI hike can be distinguished by their different features: the historic running course is described in terms of length and surface, while the circular walk is described by its starting point, return to that point and the scenery along the route. This lets you compare the two activities based on the character of each description, without treating them as a single route.
Church and regional cuisine
The church of San Giovanni Battista in Calzolaro houses an old baptistery. For those interested in local religious history, it offers a specific point of interest alongside the village’s festival and sporting history.
Il Vecchio Granaio is a restaurant and pizzeria serving traditional Umbrian cuisine. Its address is Vocabolo Busterna, Calzolaro, Umbertide, Italy, 06019. A profile published on December 19, 2025, describes fresh, seasonally selected truffles at Trattoria Volpelli, as well as traditional Umbrian dishes with some Tuscan influences. The trattoria is located in the small hamlet of Calzolaro in Umbertide. Local cuisine is thus represented by both traditional Umbrian dishes and truffles, with some Tuscan influences.
When comparing hotels for your trip, consider which of these aspects would be of particular interest during your stay.
