Scopoli between History and the Menotre Valley

Scopoli combines buildings, sacred sites and landscapes connected to the valley of the Menotre River. The Castello di Scopoli was built in 1460 as a fortification to protect the Menotre Valley and the border with the Duchy of Camerino. The Palazzetto dei Conti Rossi dates from 1679 and is connected to the Oratorio di S. Francesco, which is now called Sant’Anna. The village also contains several sacred wayside shrines dating from the 15th century, as well as a small sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna del Sasso. Buildings and religious sites from different centuries therefore shape Scopoli’s cultural character. Along Trail 380, it follows the Fosso della Smarta as far as Acqua Santo Stefano. Via the hamlet of Serrone, the hike returns to Scopoli along the Menotre. For planning purposes, this creates a route that begins and ends in the same village and includes both numbered Trail 380 and the Menotre Valley along the way. For planning the day, the route can be divided into the section along Trail 380 and the Fosso della Smarta, and the return route via Serrone and along the Menotre.

The Ecomuseo in the Centro Civico

The Centro Civico in Scopoli houses the Antenna di Foligno of the Ecomuseo della Valle del Menotre. It presents places, landscapes and activities in the valley of the Menotre River. The associated exhibition uses information panels and multimedia devices and presents a circular route connecting the mountain settlements of Rasiglia, Scopoli, Pale, Casenove, Serrone, Leggiana and Ponte Santa Lucia with Belfiore.

The Palazzo delle Logge palace and the Museo del Palazzo Comunale museum are located near Scopoli.
