Lagoon landscape and village character

Porto Levante is located on the Sacca Cavallari lagoon. Low, colorful houses shape the village and give it a distinct local character. For planning your trip, this combination of lagoon, river environments and established village structures is particularly interesting.

In the wooded area of Porto Levante stands an old, recently restored Ghiacciaia, a former icehouse. It was filled with compacted snow to store food during the warmer months, especially in summer. Around the Ghiacciaia, the Museo della Pesca a cielo aperto features an exhibition trail that reconstructs the stages of fishing and processing the catch. Another historic landmark is the Oratorio della Santissima Trinità, built in 1737.

Observing nature and experiencing the landscape

The Via delle Valli Sud begins at the car park at Via delle Valli 1 in Porto Levante and is particularly suitable for birdwatching and nature photography. After about 3 km, the Valle Bagliona opens up on the right, with large expanses of water in valley and lagoon areas; flamingos can often be seen there. The route therefore passes through a landscape where bodies of water and birdwatching are closely connected.

In the area around Porto Levante, the lagoon opposite the village is bordered by the Scanno Cavallari. This headland, which is of particular interest from a natural-history perspective, has an undeveloped beach that is open to the public. During the summer season, a short boat trip connects Porto Levante with the Scanno Cavallari, complementing the observation of the lagoon landscape with a seasonal opportunity on the water.

Boat trips and cycling route

Porto Levante is a starting point for excursions into the lagoon, coastal and river landscapes. Organized excursions include, for example, a ferry trip to the Isola di Cavallari. Marina Nuova di Porto Levante rents boats for which a boating license is either not required or is required. Organized boat trips include lunch featuring the catch of the day.

A cycling tour can also be combined with a stay in Porto Levante: “Il Po di Maistra in bici, da Ca’ Venier a Boccasette e Porto Levante” is an easy two-day cycling route with two stages. The section near Porto Levante follows the left bank of the Po and then continues downhill along a road beside the large river bend of the Po di Maistra. The section from Porto Levante to the Po di Maistra is equipped with observation towers and viewing points.
