Colle Farelli Between History and Relaxation

Colle Farelli can be explored through two strong aspects: sacred art and history on the one hand, and nature and leisure experiences on the other. Churches, Works of Art and a Long History

The sacred sites span a remarkable period of history. The church of Santo Stefano is documented as early as before 1178, while the church of S. Panfilo probably dates from around the year 1000. The choir of S. Panfilo also preserves frescoes by Saturnino Gatti from 1495. Every year, on the night of April 30 to May 1, the tradition of the “calenne” is renewed in the forecourt of the same church. For visitors who wish to experience regional culture not only through individual buildings but also through customs and art, this offers several different points of connection.

Other churches have their own distinctive features. Madonna Delle Grazie preserves a 17th-century wooden statue of Saint Stephen. San Tommaso Apostolo contains a polychrome terracotta statue of the Madonna and Child from Abruzzo, dating from the 16th century. The church of San Tommaso Apostolo in Piedi la Costa stands outside the settlement on a relatively high hill and has a single nave. The church of Santo Stefano is located in mountainous terrain at a high elevation and has natural barriers.

Landscape Between Oak Grove and Ruins

A different impression awaits at Santa Maria Abbarano. The church stands in open countryside amid an oak grove; only ruins of it remain. The contrast between the natural surroundings and the fragmentarily preserved building makes the site a destination in its own right for anyone wishing to consider landscapes and historical traces together. Santa Maria della Neve di Barano presents a clear contrast: it has been restored in every part. In this way, you encounter different forms of architectural preservation without the individual sites losing their distinct character.

Excursions, Ski Slopes and Regional Products

The Campo Felice ski area has more than 40 kilometres of ski slopes. The Antica Fiera di Tornimparte offers a different focus. It was established by the municipality of Tornimparte in 1868. At the fair, stalls run by local producers sell pasta, flour, mushrooms, cured meats and cheese.

Wellness in Abruzzo

Oasi del Colle adds a clear focus on relaxation. Oasi del Colle is a Zen resort amid the mountains and forests of Abruzzo. Rebirthing is offered there in a heated pool. The site is located on Via Colle Farelli in the Località Colle district of Tornimparte.
