Mazzocco between Wine, Nature and Architecture

Vineyards between Hills, Sea and Gran Sasso

The vineyards of Azienda Agricola e Vinicola Mazzarosa Devincenzi lie on hills at an elevation of approximately 150 m. The sea is only a few kilometres away, and Gran Sasso forms the backdrop. The short distance to the sea and the approximate elevation of the vineyards can provide different focal points for excursions. A Cellar with Unusual Details

The Mazzarosa cellar houses a wooden barrel with a capacity of 1,000 hectolitres, described as the largest wooden barrel in Europe. The cellar also contains a rare water elevator. Its original appearance from the 1860s has been preserved. Villa Mazzarosa has a compact floor plan, four prominently accentuated corner sections, two storeys and a mezzanine.

Natural Heritage and Biodiversity

The Riserva del Borsacchio was established in 2005 to protect its natural heritage from development. Around 120 plant species occur in the Riserva, including plants that are rare or endangered in Abruzzo. It also provides the endangered bird known as the Kentish plover with protected breeding habitat. Pineta Mazzarosa and Its Boundaries

In the immediate surroundings of Mazzocco, Pineta Mazzarosa features an avenue of stone pines and holm oaks. The stand includes around one hundred large trees considered natural monuments. The area is inaccessible because it is privately owned. For orientation, it is therefore important to distinguish between the two: the avenue and the trees are part of the landscape around Mazzocco, but the area itself is not available as an accessible place to stay.

Mountain Bike Route and Local Connection

A mountain bike route between Roseto degli Abruzzi and Mazzocco is 44 km long. The 44 km provide a distinct planning framework for a cycling tour; personal pace, breaks and the time available during the day influence how the entire day is organised. For personal planning, the route can be given its own time block in the daily schedule; the rest of the stay can be arranged separately and individually. Fienilemare is located in Località Mazzocco, not far from Roseto degli Abruzzi.
