Miano is an old fortified medieval village located high above the Vomano Valley. Its historic fortifications and elevated position give the village a clearly recognizable character. Historic Buildings and San Silvestro

The Palazzetto Pirocchi is a historic building in Miano dating from the 14th to the 18th century. The Porta Meridionale is a historic structure in Miano dating from the 14th century. Both buildings represent the village’s long architectural development.

The Church of San Silvestro in Miano is protected under Article 10, Paragraph 1 of the Italian Cultural Heritage Law. It was rebuilt at the beginning of the 15th century. This makes it one of the particularly precisely classifiable historic sites in Miano.

Inside the church, San Silvestro has three naves separated by round arches and resting on two hexagonal columns. The furnishings also include an 18th-century altarpiece depicting the Last Supper by an unknown artist. Architecture and sacred art can therefore be directly connected here.

The Church of San Silvestro in Miano was reopened to worshippers eight years after the 2016 earthquake.

Hiking Between Teramo and Basciano

Another perspective is offered by variant B of the first stage of the Cammino Teramano from Teramo to Basciano. It passes through Miano, is 15 km long and takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. This provides a clearly described stage for your planning, placing the village within a longer route.

On the Teramo–Basciano stage of the Cammino d’Abruzzo, the route initially follows a forest track and then returns to the provincial road before entering the municipal area of Basciano. The change between forest track and provincial road is therefore part of the character of this stage.

Getting There and Living Tradition

From Teramo, you can reach the Church of San Silvestro via the SS81 toward Chieti. After approximately 3 km, turn right at the junction for Miano and follow the signs.
