Torano Nuovo lies on a sunny hill surrounded by valleys with vineyards and olive groves; the Gran Sasso rises in the background. This landscape alone points to two aspects of the town that are of interest when planning your trip: its wine and produce culture, as well as the traces of its historic centre. This allows you to focus on different aspects, from local products and the town's history to paths through the landscape.
Wine and typical products
Torano Nuovo produces DOC wines made from Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Controguerra grapes, as well as the Colline Teramane DOCG wine. The town's typical products also include salami, ham, spelt, cheese and honey. This combination of wine and regional products gives your stay a clear culinary focus without requiring you to commit to a single product.
The festival in August
The Sagra del vino, della salsiccia, dei maccheroni e del formaggio fritto takes place in August. The 54th edition was organised so that people with disabilities could also participate. The festival therefore combines a seasonal event with the culinary traditions of Torano Nuovo.
Tour through the historic centre
The Chiesa della Madonna delle Grazie is located in the historic centre of Torano Nuovo. A recommended tour leads from the town hall square beneath the arches of the Porta Castellana to the central square. The Porta Castellana is a remnant of the ancient fortifications of Torano Nuovo.
Frescoes from the year 1400
The Chiesa di San Martino di Torri also has its own historical significance: it contains frescoes from the year 1400. In addition to the fortifications and the town centre, a visit to the town therefore offers another art-historical point of interest.
Sentieri del gusto and Cammino Teramano
For active days, the Sentieri del gusto offer a different perspective. These paths can be explored on foot or by bicycle along unpaved sections and white roads. For planning your day, the surface is a consideration in its own right: on these paths, the choice between exploring on foot and taking a bicycle tour also depends on the unpaved sections and the white roads. The Chiesa Madonna delle Grazie is connected to the Cammino Teramano. Alongside exploring the town, this places physical activity and the landscape at the centre of your visit, while allowing you to take the condition of the paths into account when planning your own route.
When choosing accommodation or a hotel in Torano Nuovo, you can therefore consider whether wine, the town's history or physical activity should be the focus of your trip.
