Architecture and Cultural Experiences

Villa Filiani was built in 1844 at the initiative of Giacinto Filiani. Today, it houses the Museo Etnomusicologico d’Abruzzo. Villa Filiani also hosts exhibitions, conferences, and concerts throughout the year. For those interested in culture, this creates a concrete point of reference where architecture, music, and public events come together.

The parish church of Pineto is also closely connected with the Filiani family: it was built by the family between 1926 and 1935. Its style reflects an eclecticism between the Romanesque style of Rome’s historic basilicas and Gothic elements. Torre del Cerrano was built as early as 1568 and houses the Biblioteca and the Museo del Mare.

Historic Places and Distinctive Coastal Traces

The thousand-year-old historic village of Mutignano is the historic center of Pineto. It complements the town’s more recent buildings with a place whose history reaches far back into the past. Another exceptional site is Il Porto Sommerso. It is considered to be the ancient port of the city of Hadria, probably dating back to Roman times.

The visible remains of Il Porto Sommerso continue underwater from the coastline for more than 500 meters. This scale makes the site a particularly notable subject for anyone interested in ancient settlements, maritime history, and archaeological traces. Pineto and Silvi are also connected at Torre del Cerrano by the Adriatic Cycle Route.

Nature in Parco Filiani and the Pineto Area

Parco Filiani was created in the 1930s to restore an area affected by a clay quarry. Today, the park offers peaceful walks for exploring nature. It is also a habitat for kestrels, buzzards, green woodpeckers, tits, badgers, foxes, and hedgehogs. Those who want not only to look at the landscape but also to observe it attentively will find a clearly defined natural setting here within Pineto.

A geologically unusual phenomenon is the Cenerone in the Pineto–Mutignano area. It is an active mud volcano. The clays ejected by this mud volcano from Pineto originate from the Upper Pliocene and are approximately 1.7 to 2 million years old. The site thus provides access to Earth’s history, which in Pineto is visible not only in museums or buildings.
