Champoluc: Skiing, Nature and Trails to Lago Blu

Champoluc offers several sides that can be easily combined when planning a trip: winter activities, trails through the Alpine landscape, regional culture and notable destinations in the surrounding area. The range extends from ski slopes and cable cars to a hike to Lago Blu and the traditional wooden shoes from Crest.

Nature between Forest and Turquoise Water

The Pian Villy forest is located near the built-up area of Champoluc and is therefore a natural reference point close to the village. Lago Blu offers a different landscape: Its water is an intense turquoise, while the Monte Rosa massif can be seen in the background. Those who want to reach the lake on foot begin the hike in Saint Jacques at an altitude of 1,689 metres. The route gains 550 metres in elevation and takes just under two hours. In winter, snowshoes are required for the route to Lago Blu.

Skiing and Higher-Altitude Areas

The Champoluc ski area has slopes of varying difficulty levels. The offer therefore ranges from areas for beginners to slopes for experienced skiers. From Champoluc and Frachey, a ski connection also leads on skis to Gressoney-La-Trinité and Alagna in Valsesia. The cable cars provide access from Champoluc to higher-altitude areas. Ski routes away from the slopes and ski excursions begin there.

For young people up to the age of 15, Villy Bike Park offers a pump track with dirt mounds, parabolic turns and ramps of varying difficulty levels. The park complements the winter activities with a clearly defined activity of a technical nature.

Crest and the History of Sabots

Crest can be reached from Champoluc by gondola or on foot in 45 minutes via hiking trail no. 13. Sabots are associated with the village: traditional wooden shoes that were historically made by families in the Crest area, particularly in winter. The term refers to the wooden shoes themselves and points to a local craft that forms a cultural aspect of exploring the area.
